RWDI's Advanced Wind Warning System Provides Advance Warning During Recent Tornado in Calgary.

RWDI developed and runs the Advanced Wind Forecasting System (AWFS) for the City of Calgary.  The system has proved useful to contractors of tall buildings and is now available for all construction sites within the City.  The system once again proved it's effectiveness during the recent Tornado in Calgary.    Click the button below to see how the AWFS helped Bird Construction during this event.

RWDI teams with BAIRD to build a wind and wave forecasting workstation

RWDI has teamed with BAIRD to develop a one-of-a-kind, high resolution, site-specific, wind and wave forecasting workstation that is used for marine docking and loading activities.

RWDI was chosen to provide weather forecasts to the River Forecast Center at Alberta Environment

This is the second year in a row that RWDI has been chosen to provide precipitiation forecasts to the River Forecast Center at Alberta Environment.  We feel priveledged to be able to porivde Alberta Environment with the tools they need for flood forecasting.

RWDI releases it's new real-time noise and vibration monitoring system

RWDI has released it's real-time noise and vibration monitoring system.  This system allows our Engineers to view in real-time our noise and vibration field measurement programs.   We now know wether our field monitoring program was successful during the monitoring program.

RWDI Monitoring Sytem Predicted Storm and Mobilized Crews

The city implemented the forecasting technology after a freak windstorm [...] In August 2009 three-year-old Michelle Krsek was killed by a steel bundle that plummeted from a downtown work site during a gusty storm.

 

"Because of that, we, with the industry, have made some drastic adjustments in what we consider to be safe, and we’ve seen the results of that ... this last weekend that demonstrates it is valuable," said Kevin Griffiths, the City of Calgary’s chief building official.

"We were forecasting 150 kilometre an hour winds at 250 metres, 24 hours in advance," says Cliff [de Jong], Building Regulations with the City of Calgary. As a result, the majority of construction sites were prepared for Sunday’s fierce storm that sent debris flying, smashing windows on several high rises.
